The Bibbulmun Track is one of the world's great long distance walk trails, stretching nearly 1000km from Kalamunda (Perth hills) to Albany (south coast) through the heart of the scenic south west of Western Australia.
The Track caters for everyone and provides a variety of experiences from a gentle stroll to an 8 week adventure. You can turn a walk into a wilderness experience by making use of purpose built campsites, each with its own three sided timber shelter, water tank and bush toilet; you can join a guided group; or you can enjoy the varied accommodation available along the Track.
The Bibbulmun Track Foundation is an incorporated not-for-profit community based organisation established to provide support for the management, maintenance and marketing of the Bibbulmun Track.
Whilst the Department of Environment and Conservation continues to act as the manager of the Track, the Foundation ensures that the Track remains a long distance walk trail of international significance and quality.
What we do:
- Encourage community participation, ownership and education.
- Develop opportunities for tourism, employment and training.
- Advocate the protection of natural and historical heritage values of the Track.
- Attract funds and other resources.
- Promote the Track as accessible to all!
Through the ‘Eyes on the Ground’ maintenance program sponsored by Newmont Boddington Gold, the Foundation manages around 300 trained volunteers, each of whom ‘own’ a section of the Track. As the name suggests maintenance volunteers are the ‘eyes on the ground’, walking their section at regular intervals, performing minor maintenance jobs as needed, and providing valuable feedback to the Foundation and DEC on the status of the Track.
As well as maintaining the Track the Foundation provides free information and advice for walkers, an equipment hire service and free in-depth trip planning advice for its members. They also produce a calendar of events twice a year with guided events for all ages and fitness levels, operate 2 all-inclusive guided 8-day Best of the Bibbulmun Walking Tours and provide Bibbulmun Walking Breaks – self-guided walking and accommodation packages.
