Newmont Boddington Gold is located within the town of Boddington and has been in operation since late 2009.
The Expansion Project was announced in February 2006 with construction completed three years later with a capital investment of approximately US$3 billion. The first gold was poured in September 2009.
At year-end 2011, Newmont had identified reserves of 19.5 million ounces of gold and 2.3 billion pounds of copper. The projected life of the mine was 28 years with an average annual gold production estimated at about 750,000.
The operational workforce is approximately 1100 Newmont employees and 900 contractors. Up to an additional 700 contractors work at the mine during regular shutdowns.
There are now 224 people employed by Newmont Boddington Gold living in Boddington and local neighbouring towns.
During Operations, more than $550 million a year will fl ow to the Peel region and $770 million per annum to the Western Australian economy.
Royalties of between $35 million and $40 million are paid to the State Government each year. In addition, Boddington Gold pays rates to Local Government of about $2 million annually.
